QUESNEL – BC Housing has modified plans for a proposed supportive housing project on the 300 block of Elliott St. by removing the shelter component.

Following discussions with the City of Quesnel, the facility will now provide a total of 30 supportive housing suites for people struggling with homelessness, as well as programming and amenity spaces for the residents of the facility.

The facility will include four support recovery beds which would be funded and managed by Northern Health.

The supportive homes will be self-contained and include a private bathroom and kitchen. Tenants will have access to 24/7 support services to help them transition to independence and recovery, including life and social skills training, community services and support groups, and regular wellness checks.

BC Housing has submitted a letter of intent to city council outlining the amendment to the current zoning application for the original project proposal. A request for proposals will be issued to identify an operator for the supportive housing units.

The Province will work closely with the city to identify a location for a new shelter site. In the meantime, the emergency shelter at 146 Carson Ave. will remain open until the new site is operational. The Quesnel Shelter and Support Society will continue to operate this shelter.

BC Housing will provide opportunities for public feedback as required by the municipal approvals process.
