SECHELT – The Government of British Columbia, in collaboration with the District of Sechelt and RainCity Housing, will open a year-round shelter to provide a safe, warm place to stay for people who are struggling with homelessness – especially during the cold winter months ahead.

Located at the former Upper Deck Hostel at 5653 Wharf Ave., the shelter will have approximately 20 beds and provide 24/7 on-site support, offering residents a range of services including case planning, meals and access to health services and counselling.

Renovations will be completed to the interior of the building to better serve the needs of the tenants. However, given the increasingly cold temperatures, the shelter will open tonight and renovations will take place concurrently.

RainCity Housing will operate the shelter, with the Province providing more than $900,000 in operating funding.

The Province continues to work closely with the District of Sechelt to identify more permanent housing solutions for people in need.
